At the center of the AI revolution: A technology leader in the memory segment

Published on 28.07.2026 CEST

SK Hynix is a South Korean chipmaker and the country's second most valuable company after Samsung. Today, the company is listing American depositary receipts (ADRs) on the Nasdaq as it looks to expand its presence in the U.S. market and raise around USD 29 billion to fund new factories and equipment.

SK Hynix is one of the world's three main producers of computer memory, alongside Samsung and Micron, supplying memory chips used in laptops and smartphones. It is the leader in high bandwidth memory (HBM), an advanced type of memory used in Nvidia's AI chips, and analysts expect it to capture more than half of the HBM market this year.

The company is expanding to meet rising AI-driven demand. Its plans include a USD 4 billion advanced packaging facility in Indiana, major investments in new manufacturing capacity in South Korea, and continued growth of its Solidigm business in California. It is also planning to spend up to USD 720 billion on expanding facilities in South Korea to support future demand for AI memory chips.
